About Reverend Roger Goodwin | Minister's Message

Rev. Roger Goodwin has served as senior minister of Unity Christ Church since August 2005. Before this he served five years at Unity Palo Alto Community Church in California and eight years at Unity Church of Madison, Wisconsin. He was ordained in 1992 having graduated from the Unity School of Religious Studies at Unity Village.

Rev. Roger was active in the leadership of the Association of Unity Churches for many years serving as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees. His theme for his year as chairperson was “Get on Board: Peace, Prayer, and Prosperity.” In addition he has served as Chairperson of the Budget/Finance Team, President of the Great Lakes Region, Member of the Board of Trustees, Executive Team, and first and second Vice Chair.

Prior to his ministerial service, he worked in the fields of community mental health and substance abuse treatment for fifteen years. He was Executive Director of the Thurston-Mason Community Health Center in Olympia, Washington and was CEO of Cascade Oaks Youth Recovery Center, a specialty hospitality that treated adolescents with chemical dependency and addictive disorders. He was a founding officer of the Washington Community Mental Health Council. He holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Portland.

Roger's vision for ministry is to be a channel for the transformation of individuals and the world. To create a spiritual community where families and individuals come to worship in joy, heal with love, serve with generosity, and allow the presence of God to express in daily living.

Roger's credo and viewpoint of ministry:

Each person is on a quest for wholeness, a healing journey of coming home to God. To be a minister is to walk with others on the journey, to comfort, aid and assist as they become aware of the divinity within. Ministry is an activity of being present with love and compassion at the most critical moments in the lives of people.

My personal call to ministry came as a response to the deepest longing of my soul to serve God with all my heart. The spiritual dimension of my service to others brings me great joy. I believe that God has a perfect plan for each of us and that through prayer, dialogue and spiritual discernment, we each can discover this plan.

Roger is also a percussionist with many years of experience as a musician. He has played in a wide range of musical groups. He is an avid reader and book lover and has recently developed a keen interest in art. He and his wife, Barbara, enjoy traveling and have visited England, Scotland, France and Italy. They especially enjoyed walking the labyrinth at the cathedral of Chartres by candlelight. They have three adult children, Justin, Caitlin and Claire.
