The Law of Giving and Receiving
By Charles Fillmore
The law of giving and receiving is the law of substance that equalizes all things.  To realized and maintain divine order, substance must have both an inlet and an outlet in consciousness and must be kept moving.  To demonstrate substance as supply, the law governing it must be recognized and kept.  One must receive freely as one receives.    Readiness to give and readiness to receive are equally essential. Tithing is giving a tenth of one's supply to God's work.  Tithing,  which is based on a law that cannot fail, establishes a method of giving.  It brings into consciousness a sense of divine order that is manifested in one's outer life and affairs as increased efficiency and greater prosperity.  It is the surest way ever found to demonstrate plenty for it is God's own law and way of giving.

Divine Love, through me, blesses and multiplies
All that I Am, all that I have, all that I give, and all that I receive.

Unity has always taught the spiritual laws of Prosperity and Abundance. We believe in the principles given in the Guidance for Prosperity and we practice the Law of Giving and Receiving.

Giving takes many forms, and there are many opportunities for giving of one’s time, talent, and treasure.  We are forever grateful to those who volunteer their time and talents to make the church a welcoming place and keep the church operations running smoothly.  A basic belief of Unity is that we must help others.  Unity Christ Church supports our larger Unity movement with tithes to the Association of Unity Churches, Unity Institute, Silent Unity, the Eastern Association of Unity Churches, a ministerial education program student at Unity Village, and community outreach.

Giving Freely

According to Charles Fillmore, co-founder of Unity, “A gift of reservations is not a gift; it is a bribe. There is no promise of increase unless we give freely, let go of the gift entirely, and recognize the universal scope of the law. Then the gift has a chance to go out and to come back multiplied. There is no telling how far the blessing may travel before it comes back, but it is beautiful and encouraging fact that the longer it is in returning, the more hands it is passing through and the more hearts it is blessing. All these hands and hearts add something to it in substance, and it is increased all the more when it does return.”

Prosperity

You should expect prosperity when you keep the prosperity law. Therefore, be thankful for every blessing that you gain and as greatly grateful for every demonstration as for an unexpected treasure dropped in your lap. This will keep your heart fresh; for true thanksgiving may be likened to rain falling upon ready soil, refreshing it and increasing its productiveness.

Charles Fillmore, Prosperity

Unity has always taught the spiritual laws of Prosperity and Abundance. The Fundamental Teachings of Unity state:

Prosperity is the abundance of every good thing our hearts desire. This blessing originates in God, the Source of all good. It is manifested in our lives through our enlightened use of divine ideas of good with which God inspires us. When we consciously work with these ideas and use them wisely and lovingly, bountiful blessings will flow into our lives. As our awareness increases of the infinite supply which is perpetually available to us, our prosperity demonstrations will also increase. Our every need will be abundantly met in the most appropriate and fulfilling ways.

Eric Butterworth says, “Prosperity is a way of living and thinking, and not just money or things.  Poverty is a way of living and thinking, and not just a lack of money or things.”

Guidance for Prosperity

  1. We live in a universe of spiritual substance, infinite supply, and endless good.
  2. Abundance is found in a consciousness of God, not a preoccupation with material things. Open yourself to a consciousness of abundant living, claim your good and bless the good of others.
  3. God is our source and our supply. Other people, our jobs, etc. are channels through which we receive.
  4. The law of mind action, “thoughts held in kind produce after their kind,” reminds us that our thoughts have the energy to shape our experiences.
  5. To live the abundant life we must practice the laws of giving and receiving: what we give returns as increase in proportion to the value it brings to others.
  6. We must be open and receptive to receive this good. We are co-creators with God and we must let God do Spirit’s part.
  7. Honor, treat with respect, and behold the Christ within all people.
  8. To clear the blocks to the flow of our good, we must forgive and let go of our resentments.
  9. Tithing is a spiritual discipline that helps us to remember that God is our Source and to put God first.
  10. Take right action, do what needs to be done by you to realize your heart’s desire. Don't wait to receive something for nothing.

The Law of Attraction

There are three key steps necessary for successfully employing the Law of Attraction.

  • Set an intention - Know what you desire and ask the universe for it.
  • Affirm the power of your intention - Focus your thought upon the thing desired.  Charles Fillmore said, “Faith is the perceiving power of the mind linked to the power to change substance.”    Feel and behave as if the object of one's desire is already acquired.
  • Be open to receiving it.  Release your desire to control the outcome.

Tithing

Tithing is a special kind of giving: it is giving with the thought of God uppermost in our minds. It is a disciplined way to experience being a channel in the flow of giving and receiving. “Tithe” means a tenth — pure tithing is giving ten percent of your income to the source of your spiritual good.  One of the greatest tools for prosperous living, many people just like you regularly give a percentage of their income to the place where they receive their spiritual nourishment.  If you already tithe, then you know the benefits—increased prosperity, gratitude and joy.

Tithing recognizes the presence of God within as the source of all good. If a person tithes through any feeling of coercion or fear, or even habit, we miss the point. Assess where you receive your spiritual nourishment and tithe to it. Nothing builds consciousness as much as the process of giving willingly, cheerfully, lovingly, joyfully.

Our Consistent Giving Program

Our consistent giving program offers an easier way to continue or begin your love offerings to Unity Christ Church.  No more rushing to write your check on Sunday.  No more concern that your support will be missed on those days you cannot attend, and if your have not experienced the true and lasting benefits that regular tithing brings, this is an easy way to start.  Please consider these different options to determine which would work best for you:

  • Set up check transfers from your checking or savings that will be mailed by your bank to the church.
  • Charge your contributions. This can be a one time donation or on a recurring basis.  This can be a benefit to you to earn reward points. Wouldn’t it be nice to earn an airline ticket just for donating to your spiritual home?

These options are also an easy way to set up and track your tithing commitment. As with any contribution method, your information is secure.  To arrange credit card donations, please contact or .
